Forest Genetics CellFor Ltd
Forest Genetics CellFor Ltd produces genetically superior radiata pine plants for plantation forests in New Zealand and Australia. We are an early-stage, high technology company formed to research, develop and sell genetically superior varieties of radiata pine tree plants at competitive prices to New Zealand and Australian forest growers. We have an exclusive licence to use technology and genetic trials developed by CellFor Inc www.CellFor.com, a Canadian biotechnology company that develops embryogenesis technology and produces genetically superior loblolly pine in the Southeast USA. The company was founded in December 2002 and is based in Rotorua, New Zealand.
We believe that our Production Varieties offer the best planting stock available in the market today. Forest growers have for many years employed genetic improvement techniques aimed at increasing financial returns through growing radiata pine trees that are faster, straighter, more disease resistant, and with superior wood properties. Leading edge genetic technology now offers even further financial gains, through the planting of varieties with superior performance to those currently available. We use advanced somatic embryogenic technology for propagation along with conventional testing and selection techniques. We do not utilise any gene transfer, genetic modification or engineering technology, although should that become desirable, our propagation technology can provide the platform for delivery. Production of this new type of planting stock is now being rapidly amplified.
In addition, our varieties offer the potential to capture 25% more carbon than existing radiata pine forests, while also providing renewable feedstock for both biomaterials and biofuels. This clearly presents opportunities to both reduce greenhouse gasses (thus slowing the rate of climate change), and making positive contributions to environmental sustainability.
Our mission is to become the leading supplier of plants of superior radiata pine varieties to plantation owners in Australia and New Zealand.
