Performance of Production Varieties
Performance of Clonal Varieties for Growth Rate & Wood Stiffness compared to control seedlots
The above chart highlights trial results for selected clonal varieties when compared with the means of open pollinated and elite crosses. The chart shows the mean wood stiffness and growth rate of the selected clonal varieties (age 4-5 years from planting), demonstrating the greater growth rate and wood stiffness gains of clonal varieties compared to the alternatives. These traits are desirable for forest growers, as well as wood processors, with both log and wood prices expected to be higher for trees of the clonal varieties.
Performance of Clonal Varieties for Growth Rate, Wood Stiffness & Disease Resistance compared to control seedlots
This chart additionally highlights those clonal varieties that have a very high disease resistance, which is an additional desirable trait for many forest growers with disease prone sites. This outstanding performance of clonal varieties illustrates that they can be expected to outperform planting-stock types that are currently available for all three traits.
Performance of Clonal Varieties for Growth Rate, Wood Stiffness & Wood Density compared to control seedlots
This chart again shows performance of clonal varieties for wood stiffness and growth rate, but highlights those clonal varieties that have a very high wood density, which is a desirable trait for forest growers wanting to produce stronger wood, and higher yields of pulpwood. Again, this outstanding performance of clonal varieties illustrates that they can be expected to outperform planting-stock types that are currently available for all three traits.
